Why a form asks for one image instead of two
Most application portals give you two upload boxes, one for the photograph and one for the signature. Some give you only one, and expect a single image containing both. That is usually an artefact of how the form was built rather than a deliberate choice — one file field was cheaper to add than two.
The layout those forms expect is consistent: the photograph on top, the signature directly underneath, on a plain white background, with no border or text. That is what this tool produces.
Read the numbers off your own form
We deliberately do not list per-exam pixel and kilobyte figures here. We checked, and the figures circulating on other tool sites for the same exams contradict each other — one page will tell you 200 by 230 pixels and another something else for the identical form.
The form in front of you states its own limits, and it is the thing doing the validating. Put its width in the width box and its size limit in the maximum size box. If it also fixes the exact canvas dimensions, tick the exact canvas size option and enter both numbers.
Nothing gets stretched
Each image keeps its own proportions. Both are scaled to the same width and stacked with a small gap, so the canvas height comes out as whatever the two images need.
When you ask for an exact canvas size, the stacked pair is fitted inside it and centred, with white padding around the edges rather than distortion. A stretched signature is one of the more obvious ways to have an application questioned, so the tool will pad instead every time.
Getting a clean result
The single biggest improvement is cropping the signature tightly to the ink before you add it here. A signature floating in a large white field wastes most of its height on nothing, and after scaling to the shared width the ink ends up tiny.
For the signature itself, Protean's guidance for PAN applications is worth following whatever the form: never sign on a patterned or coloured background, and use a plain white piece of paper and a black ink pen.
- Crop the photo to head and shoulders, and the signature to the ink.
- Use the same lighting for both if you photographed rather than scanned them — a grey signature next to a bright photo looks wrong.
- Check the preview before downloading. It is the actual output file, not an approximation.
- If the result overshoots the size limit, reduce the width rather than accepting a low-quality image.
Questions people ask
Which goes on top?
The photograph, with the signature underneath. That is the order every portal we have seen asks for, and it is the order this tool uses.
Can I put them side by side instead?
Not here. Forms that want a combined image want it stacked vertically, and offering a horizontal option would mostly produce rejected uploads.
The combined image is over the size limit. What should I change?
Lower the width. File size scales with pixel count, so going from 400 to 300 pixels wide removes about 44 percent of the pixels and usually solves it without visible harm at these sizes.
Does the output keep transparency?
No. The output is JPEG on a white background, because that is what upload forms accept. A transparent signature PNG comes out as black ink on white, which is what you want.
Are my files uploaded to combine them?
No. Both images are read into this browser tab, drawn onto a canvas there, and the result is handed back to you as a local file. There is no server in the path.
